Matches on big screen for free

The Makkah Municipality has installed giant TV screens in the public parks around the city for citizens and residents to watch World Cup matches free of charge.

Hisham Al-Shelli, director of public parks and recreational facilities at the municipality, said the move to install the screens stems from the department’s keenness to provide outdoor entertainment to the people.

He said two parks, located in the center of the residential districts, have been chosen for the screening.

“A big screen was installed in Al-Amana Club Park at Al-Naseem district and a second one at Al-Khaldiyah district,” he said.

The parks are equipped with proper lighting, seats and other necessities, he said.

According to Muhammad Taha Faqeih, director of safety and social services, the municipality is keen to hold events for the residents of Makkah to help establish an interactive social environment between members of the community, especially the youth.
