The Jeddah Administrative Court has fined an Asian woman janitor SR1,000 and sentenced her to one year in prison to be followed by deportation on charges of forgery, local media reported.
The court earlier convicted her of forging a bachelor’s degree to enable her take tests conducted by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties (SCHS) to fill the position of a nurse at a government hospital, a local newspaper reported.
The woman confessed to the crime, saying she only had a secondary school certificate, had never attended university and had submitted a forged degree to allow her to work as a nurse.
She is married with three children living in her home country and has been working in the Kingdom as a janitor for the last eight years, the paper said.
The woman said she would not appeal the verdict.
