English language to be taught from third grade

Prince Khaled Al-Faisal, Minister of Education said the government realized that the students in the Kingdom were weak in foreign languages and that the ministry was working in this area to deal with the issue through various plans and program.


Prince Khaled pointed out that the ministry was moving toward introducing English language from the third grade, as soon as the necessary preparations were finalized.


He said the percentage of educated people in the Kingdom until 2013 reached 60.61 percent with an increase of 10.61 percent on international rates. He observed that according to UNESCO the rate of illiteracy is estimated at around 50 percent.


The education minister said the new strategy of the ministry was aimed to double the growth rates in the education sector and its various levels.


He pointed out that the Kingdom takes great care to double growth rates in education sectors and its various levels, and opened the way for Saudi citizens to reach the highest educational levels.
